摘 要: The present investigation focused upon the impact of gender and various “powerful” and “less powerful” linguistic features on the communication of unfamiliar male and female university students. Same-sex and mixed-sex dyads were recorded as they engaged in discussions regarding suggestions for a freshman orientation booklet. Although few gender differences were found, the result of a factor analysis yielded three factors: questions, suggestions, and process variables. These factors are consistent with a power perspective in the use of various linguistic features. However, the present findings suggest that gender and power alone cannot explain differences in communication styles. Rather, the results suggest the need to consider other aspects of the speaker to explain differences that occur in the use of language.

摘 要: The article “Social media effects on young women’s body image concerns: Theoretical perspectives and an agenda for research” by Perloff (2014) extends the study of media effects on women’s body image concerns by including social media. His article is important because of the increasing use and unique nature of social media, and it can provide an avenue for future research. We propose to differentiate social media use as motivated by general social media use from that driven by specific needs related to body image concerns. In addition, we suggest differentiating mere exposure to content from the active use of social media, such as commenting and posting. Finally, we recommend advancing the research on body image beyond the thin ideal because body dissatisfaction can be related to various body parts, and we recommend including participants beyond adolescence, integrating multiple methods, and conducting research on interventions. The aim of this commentary is not to provide a framework for specific cultures or social contexts, but to offer suggestions that encourage researchers to broaden the scope of research on body image concerns.

Female education has become the most alive and creative part in education. Gender refers to both the social aspect and physiological aspect, while sex refers to the latter only. The physiological part cannot decide women’s destiny in the society, so the word gender is for changing women’s social inferior role to the equal part as men. This paper is to focus on education from the social equal angle to establish a kind of compulsory education based on equal social gender system, and it is to bring some enlightenment for Chinese educational reform.
